24th January Military Badge auction just what Collectors Wanted
Bosleys held their first sale of 2018 on the 24th January, containing 648 lots of specially selected original badges and insignia. The sale got off to a good start when Lot 1 a rare pre 1914 3rd County of London Yeomanry arm badge sold for £460. throughout the sale could be found themed sections and Indian Army proved very popular when Lot 402 a Victorian 2nd Bengal Light Cavalry Officer’s badge hammered £900 and Lot 544 a 22nd Madras Regiment pagri badge sold for £480. British cavalry always proves popular and this sale contained one of the rarest of cap badges a “Double Scroll” Elephant badge of the 19th Hussars selling for £900. Badges of the Special Forces continue to be highly sort after, with lot 615 WW2 SAS Wings selling for £500, Lot 326 LRDG Cap Badge £700 and Lot 573 Commando. No. 4 Independent Company 55th Division rare cloth formation sign selling for £1,400. However the highlight and surprise of the day was Lot 309 Free French Commando rare WW2 attributed beret badge. This badge received the most request for additional information and after a long internet bidding battle sold for a World Record Price of £4,800 hammer.
