Bosleys 1st public auction of 2019 took place on the 6th March, offered over 800 lots of military collectables. The first section was military badges and amongst this section were examples dating from the late 18th century to the British Army Brigade amalgamations of the 1960’s. The highest price of the section was a Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards George III Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1792-1807 which sold for £3,000. Another similar period shoulder belt plate this time to the Scottish, Peebleshire Yeomanry Cavalry formed in 1803 and comprising only three Officers sold for £1,900. A fine array of military accoutrements saw a Scottish. 93rd Foot Sutherland Highlands Officer’s Dirk Belt sell for £950 and remaining with the Scottish theme was a Scottish Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders Victorian Officer’s dirk belt which sold for £700. A good selection of British swords saw fierce room and online bidding despite being towards the end of the sale, The first lot of the section a Victorian 14th (King’s) Hussars Officer’s Mameluke Sword sold for £2,200 and this seemed to set the theme for the section, with a similar sword for an Officer of the 11th (Prince Albert’s Own) Hussars selling for £2,000. A very fine silver hallmarked sword carried by Lieutenant General Edward Gibbs when he commanded the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Light Infantry during the Peninsula war sold for £3,500. Remaining with the Napoleonic war, the vanguard of the sale however had to go to the medal section which saw a Naval General Service Medal, bearing the clasp “Nymphe 18 June 1793” awarded to Master John Gaze, confirmed as one of only 4 clasps awarded, a telephone bidder lost to an online bidder for the hammer to fall at £32,000. A similar medal with two clasps  “Anholt 27 March 1811” & “Syria” awarded to Admiral William Luckraft sold for £17,000 and this was matched by a third example bearing the single clasp “Boadicea 18 Septr 1810” this being one of only 15 awarded which also sold for £17,000. The German section counting mostly Third Reich militaria saw a 1933 model SS dagger, erased Rohm inscription, with scarce upright hanger by Rich. Arb. Herder, Solingen sell for £1,900 and a Luftwaffe Pilot’s breast badge by C.E. Junker of Berlin selling for £550.
