“Sligo To Shanghai” Badges of the Empire Start 2023

2023 has got off to a great start for collectors of original military badges, with the consignment of an Important life time collection of Irish Militia insignia. The collection will be offered in our 8th March sale, with fine examples, representing Tyrone, Tipperary, Wrexford, Sligo and many others. To wet the appetite of our Irish collectors amongst the collection is a rare:  County Dublin Militia Victorian Officer’s shoulder belt plate, Irish Leitrim Rifles Militia Victorian Officer pre 1881 pouch belt plate and Irish North Tipperary Militia Victorian Officer shako plate and for those interested in early uniform is included and extremely rare Napoleonic War period Sergeant’s scarlet coatee of the Glendermot Infantry.
The same auction will also see further consignments from the Bob Betts collection of colonial badges including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chinese Regiment, East and West African, West Indian Regiments  etc. This collection is recognised as one of the finest collection of the type compiled in the UK. Bob, a well know face at the military collectors shows and societies has now decided it is time for other collectors to enjoy his life time collection of badges
Bosleys first sale of the year will be held on the 8th February at our Bosleys Stafford saleroom, at the time of writing this sale is about to close and will include over 400 lots, amongst the lots will be found consignments from a vast private military museum, closed to the public for many years, Bosleys have been able to rediscover many long forgotten treasures amongst mountains of storage boxes. Also consigned in the early days of 2023 is a large collection of Police and Military badges, a number of examples swelling the 217 lot badge section and others appearing in our planned Special General Collectors Sale.
For those non badge collectors don’t worry as other consignments include original German militaria, Officer’s Lance caps, Cavalry busbies, Great War uniform, plus the normal array of unusual and rare military collectables including a fine 19th Century portrait of an Officer of the 21st North British Fusilers are being consigned daily.
2023 will also see Bosleys enter their 29th year of auctioneering and to the best of our knowledge remains the only UK Military Auction house to offer a guarantee of originality, before and after the full of the hammer.
